UK: Ethiopian Assurances No Guarantee Against Torture

Saudi Arabia: Treat Shia Minority Equally

A report released today calls on Saudi authorities to treat minority Shia Muslims as equal citizens. The Saudi government also should create commissions to investigate arbitrary arrests of Shia and to recommend steps to end systemic state discrimination, Human Rights Watch said.

Kazakhstan: Give Rights Defender Fair Trial

The Kazakh government should ensure that Kazakhstan’s most prominent human rights defender, who faces manslaughter charges following an automobile accident, gets a fair trial. The government’s past harassment of its critics and its handling of the case thus far raise concerns that it could be used for political purposes, Human Rights Watch said.
