The humanitarian crisis in Darfur is one of the largest in the world. Since the start of 2003 two million people have fled their homes and 200,000 have died.

Global Day for Darfur was organised by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the Save Darfur Coalition.

The UK government has proposed London hosts Darfur peace talks and have been in contact with the Sudanese government and rebel groups.

A group of children, surviviors from the war torn province, visited Downing Street and presented international development minister Shaid Malik with pictures they had drawn of their hopes for Darfur’s future. On of the Children Roa Hassan said “The international community needs to wake up – where is their consciousness, where are their hearts? They need to wake up and help.”

There are now 5 year old children living in Darfur and as refugees in Chad who have know no peace in their lifetime.

The following video (part 1 of 2) shows some of the pictures drawn by Darfuri refugee children, these were collected by Anna Schmitt of Waging Peace between June and July last year. The drawing will be exhibited around the world and also form part of the submitted evidence to the International Criminal Court.
